Preliminary Harvest Report
The winter 2018 was rainy, which was very positive for us and for the country, since we had been facing a long period of drought.
The spring was cold, which delayed the grape’s veraison. This resulted in a longer ripening period and a slower development of the grape’s components.
The first weeks of February were very warm, with areas that reached up to 40 ° C, but there were only a few days of intense heat. This stressed the grapes just enough to achieve homogeneity between the bunches, higher concentration and better quality. However, the dehydration generated by the heat did not impact this year’s yields. In 2019 we should have the same volumes of 2018.
The coastal areas have had cooler nights, which allowed for a greater thermal amplitude during the summer. This is extremely positive for the grape, because it helps with the development of its aromatic components. We expect a Pinot Noir of exceptional quality and excellent Sauvignon Blanc.
The harvest should start as in previous years, at the end of February. The first valleys should be Limarà and Aconcagua and Maule Valley.
In the BÃo BÃo Valley, we had a frosty spring, which affected production, delaying sprouting and veraison. However, the high temperatures during summer will allow us to start harvest to at a normal date.
2019 is definately a good year, in terms of climate and quality.
