Enjoy these 5 soup pairings with Chardonnay
Those who appreciate gastronomic culture know that a good Chardonnay can also be enjoyed in winter and is the perfect complement to various meals. Below we see different pairing options that invite you to surprise your palate and try new recipes for comfortable food.
1. Bouillabaisse soup with white fish
Originally from the port of Marseille, in the south of France, this soup is special for the autumn or winter seasons, when you need a replenishing broth. It even receives the name of “sun broth” thanks to the comfortable effect it produces. Composed mainly of fish and seasonal spices, it is usually accompanied by toast spread with garlic or hot sauce.
The Chardonnay wine pairing is what best enhances the Mediterranean flavors delivered by the fish and seafood, at a temperature of 8 to 12 degrees that will provide freshness for a great final closure.
2. Cream of carrots with pumpkin chips
A versatile product when cooking creams is carrots. Highlighting a sweet and salty taste, it is cooked with coconut milk for a vegan version or with liquid cream. You can bring seasonings like white pepper, nutmeg, and fresh ginger. It goes very well with pumpkin chips or crispy fried onion. Which goes especially well with whites like Chardonnay wine.
3. Onion soup
Among the preparations that are consumed hot and well seasoned, onion soup is a traditional recipe, also of French origin, necessary for those cold days. The mixture of sweet onions, garlic and olive oil results in an ideal broth to be accompanied by a white wine, as it can compensate for the intensity of the flavor with good body and unctuousness.
4. Cream of mushrooms
With a thick consistency, the cream of mushrooms is an excellent option to enjoy with a simple grilled fish. The ideal complement to the drink that accompanies it, enhances the flavor of the mushroom, so it is recommended to accompany the dish with a white wine. It is usually the same as that used in the preparation, but one matured in oak with fruity notes is always better.
5. Squash cream
Butternut squash can be one of the most enjoyable options for a Chardonnay wine pairing, helping to create a more homey atmosphere in the winter. In addition to the usual ingredients (garlic, onion, potato, olive oil, carrot and, of course, pumpkin), it is recommended to take a chance with species with intense flavors. For example, a cream of squash curry (about 5 teaspoons) can give a lot of personality to the pairing with Chardonnay on a rainy or very cold day. You can accompany it with bread.
Chardonnay wine varieties
To try and discover new wines of this type, at Viña Cono Sur we make our reserve of white wines available at any time of the year. We can start with the white variety called 20 Barrels, which has been a success from the beginning. Continue with Bicicleta, a bright yellow Chardonnay with touches of gold, and finish with a Reserva Especial, a crisp and balanced wine.
